Hi! I’m so happy you stopped by Encouraged in Heart!
I’m Steph and that’s my family and me on the left. I’m married to Dave, which if you stick around for a minute, will learn that I refer to him as The Finkster. I’m Smother (yes, that’s what my offspring call me. What can I say? I smother because I
have a problem love them soooooo much, and THAT IS HOW I ROLL!) to Jake, Cal and our dog, Crash. Crash is our rescue pug/terrier that didn’t make the cut for this family picture only because he’s fully committed to his role of embarrassing us, while we’re in any and all public settings. It’s not because we’re horrible dog trainers. Well, maybe it is. But seriously, FAMILY PICTURES CAN BE A VERY STRESSFUL TIME ALREADY. I mean, just during this family photo shoot, my kids got into just one fight which is evidence that miracles still happen today. There was one Christmas photo sesh years ago that I ended defeated and sweaty, “WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT FOR EVERYONE TO NOT FIGHT, SMILE, KEEP THEIR EYES OPEN AT THE VERY SAME TIME? WHY? WHY?” Yes, we are that family. If you want to see Crash, check out my Pinterest board, “Crashisms” because, clearly, I have way too much time on my hands or on Instagram or Facebook because he’s a regular rock star there!
A little about my background…I’m a former cop that turned into an inspirational speaker, author, and abolitionist. Most writers I’ve met have pretty much known that they were destined to be an author. Not this Jersey Girl. No one is more surprised at this occupation change than me! If I knew early on that God wanted me to be a writer, I would have totally paid a lot more attention in English class. For reals. So I practiced writing and started blogging in January of 2008 and eventually became the author of three books!
My very first eBook, 28 Lessons I Learned When My Head Was Stuck In the Fridge, was written with the heart to encourage others who, like me, struggle with food, weight, and any addiction really. It’s available for purchase on Amazon and iTunes!
I wrote my second book, Building Bridges – Made on Purpose for a Purpose, because I saw gaps; gaps which need bridges. If you’re not sure what your purpose is, get Building Bridges; it will encourage you to live out your unique purpose!
My third book, The Blessed Juggle – From Cray to Okay in 30 Days, was written because everywhere I go, I hear women say that they are cray (my hip way to say crazy) and BUSY! The Blessed Juggle will help you shift from cray (busy) to okay (blessed)!
I have a tattoo on my left wrist of a key with two hearts. It’s a great visual reminder to help me not forget my purpose and passion. My purpose is to encourage hearts and my passion is to unlock hearts from human trafficking which is modern day slavery. Yes, slavery still exists. There are more slaves in the world today than at any other point in human history, with an estimated 27 million in bondage across the globe. Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings, mainly for the purposes of forced labor, organ removal and sex. As the world’s fastest growing criminal industry, it affects every nation across the globe. Every 30 seconds, someone becomes a victim of modern-day slavery. Men, women, and children are being exploited for manual and sexual labor against their will in the United States and world-wide. The average age of a trafficking victim is just 12 years old. I’ve partnered with The A21 Campaign to help end human trafficking. Learn more about human trafficking here.
Before I go, I feel like it’s important for you to also know that I’m a coffee, guacamole, and hashtag aficionado. For reals. #ilovehashtags
